The trips leave at 4.30pm from the Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal and return at 9.30pm. This trips head outside of the Harbour to the Charles Point fishing grounds and have proved to be very popular with both the locals and visitors. Targeting mostly Jewfish and Golden Snapper they have proven more often than not to be a very productive charter. During the trip you get Steak and Salad Sandwiches as well as Cheese Biscuits and Cabanas with Tea/Coffee and water. On the 23rd of April Joel Turner and a group of his mates headed out on one of these charters and landed 8 or 9 Jewfish all over the meter mark with the largest coming in and an impressive 1.4m. The largest fish landed came in at 124cm and weighed in at 48lbs.
The fishing thus far this season is proving to be brilliant, having taken a slow start due to the late wet. Travis and the boys have noticed during each trip that the water levels have been dropping and each trip is proving to be better than the last. I was lucky enough to be on board Island Selina with my daughter. The day started off like any other charter with the general banter and smell of Bacon and Egg sandwiches. We were heading out to a spot that was ticked as being a producer, it was about 1hr 45m from Darwin.
Once we arrived everyone was keen to wet a line. Well the first 20min produced 0 so we moved off to spot number 2 about 20min further. Here we landed just a few small not to right home about fish so again we moved to spot number three. Well we arrived about 1hr prior to the swing of the tide, as my sinker hit the bottom I felt that tell tale sucking that is followed by the cry FISH ON.... 10min later and I landed a wonderful Jewfish that measured in at about 1m 22cm. 5 minutes later my daughter landed her first fish of the day at about 1m 10cm. the it was on for young and old. It boiled down to who ever could get there bait to the bottom landed a fish. In total after about 45minutes of fishing we called bag limits with 25 Jewfish all over the metre landed.
It truly was the perfect day fishing.
